Hey kids! I hope that this Sabbath is treating you well. As you know, it's another cold blistery February day here in North Dakota. With temperatures of over 30 below this morning, I made the decision to keep the family home from church. I don't like doing that, but everyone's safety takes precedence over everything else. Travel in these temperatures should only be done when absolutely necessary.

There was a time when traveling in frigid temperatures didn't bother me much. When I was single, I once attended a Church Educational System broadcast in Williston. The speaker was Elder Dallin H. Oaks. We had a no travel advisory here in North Dakota. The weather was horrific and the roads were awful. But I wanted to attend that fireside in the worst way.

Back then I had my 1985 Jeep Cherokee. I loved that vehicle. I had paid $2,600 for it and took extremely good care of it. I threw it into four wheel drive and headed to Williston. I was the only one to show up at the chapel for the broadcast, but I sure enjoyed it. If I recall correctly, it was his address known as, "Judge Not and Judging". You can listen to it here. Or you can read it here. I highly recommend it.

After I married your mother, life took on a whole new meaning. Over the years, things that I once wouldn't have thought twice about doing, I often won't do now. Unnecessary travel is one of them.

As you can tell, this is my first post on the new blog. This is something that I've wanted to do for some time. Because I work three jobs, my time is extremely limited. So, this will likely be a Sunday blogging experience. Where it will go, I have no idea. I'm just going to jump in and see what happens.

In all likelihood, my posts will probably focus most on family and gospel topics. I'll have an Odds & Ends category too for the other things that may come up for me to write about.

I'm especially hopeful that this blog will be a means whereby Job and Carolyn can stay better connected with me, our family, and the things I find important in life. Having the two of you away at college has been a new experience. Though I'll admit that I don't miss the fighting with the little ones! Having said that, the teenagers still do plenty of it.

Please, know that I love you and look forward to sharing some important things with you as this blog develops. Try to keep up. This will at least give you something valuable to do on those phones and devices of yours!

Remember who you are.
